Since the idea of Social Media has come into existence, it has become a perfect place for people to unite and share their experiences with the world. Me Too Movement is one prurient campaign where not only women but also men are getting united and demonstrating their experiences with sexual assault which has become problematic among communities, races, workplaces, and sexual orientation.

As per the research, there are more than half-million posts on social media with the hashtag “MeToo” that clearly symbolizes that the people who have posted #MeToo have gone through the terrible experiences which cannot be taken aback.

What is Me Too Movement?

It is one forgotten movement against sexual harassment and sexual assault. The idea rapidly spread in the year 2017 as a hashtag which was used on the social media which was an initiative to demonstrate the widespread existence of sexual assault and harassment experienced at the workplace, house, public, and likewise.

The phrase Me Too began in early 2006 and later it was popularized by an American actress Alyssa Milano on Twitter in 2017. Milano motivated millions of victims who got trapped in the net of sexual harassment through the social media platform where she adds that the movement will “give people a sense of the magnitude of the problem”.

The Movement exposed so many high profile gentlemen who were the part of sexual misconduct which includes – Harvey WeinsteinChristiano Ronaldo, Brett Kavanaugh, Les Moonves and many more.

#MeToo in India

The movement was identified in India after the former AIB Comedian Utsav Chakraborty was accused of sexual assault by a writer and the fellow comic who significantly said that the company did not take any action despite such a horrendous act and her complaints.

Recently, Nana Patekar a popular Bollywood Actor has been drawn in the picture by Tanushree Dutta. She filed a complaint where she alleges that the actor grabbed her arm and pushed her on the pretext of teaching her dance moves and touched her “inappropriately and unnecessarily” in front of the whole crew of “Horn OK Please”.

She further explains that “I felt very uncomfortable because of his behavior mentioned above and he has outraged my modesty I felt embarrassed like this his behavior was inappropriate towards me”.

Yesterday, Amitabh Bachchan on his 76th Birthday showcased his concern towards women’s sexual assault through his twitter handle –

“No woman should ever be subjected to any kind of misbehavior, or disorderly conduct; especially at her workplace. Such acts should immediately be brought to the notice of concerned authorities, and corrective measures are taken, either through filing complaints or a recourse to law.”
