Early Life and Education
Luis Alfonso Rodrguez López-Cepero was born in 1978 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, as Luis Alfonso Rodrguez López-Cepero. He is the oldest child of Delia and Alfonso, with Jean and Tatiana as his younger siblings. Fonsi attended Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando, Florida, as an adolescent, where he was a member of the Big Guys singing group. Fonsi received a full scholarship at Florida State University in 1995. He sung in the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and sang in the school choir. Fonsi was offered a recording contract by Universal Music Latin after skipping out to pursue his music career.
Albums released between 1998 and 2014
In 1998, Fonsi released his debut album, “Comenzaré.” The album was a blockbuster in Puerto Rico and throughout Latin America, peaking at number 11 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart. It featured the singles “Si T Quisieras,” “Dime Como,” “Perdóname,” and “Me Iré.” Fonsi’s follow-up album, “Eterno,” was even more successful when it was released in 2000. He also recorded a duet with Christina Aguilera for her Spanish-language album “Mi Reflejo” the same year. Fonsi released “Amor Secreto” and “Fight the Feeling” in 2002, with the latter being his first English-language album.
