HP Launched Its WOW Bus for Digital Literacy to Support Digital India Program

Hewlett Packard (HP), an American multinational information technology company, launched its ‘World on Wheels’ vehicle for digital inclusion. This Initiative is powered by green energy and backed by numerous software suites like cloud integration.

HP-WOW bus is a 20-seater computer and IT-enabled vehicle that is equipped with HP computing and printing equipment as well as software suites and e-learning tools including HP LIFE. It is a part of HP’s global initiative to create opportunities in underserved communities and empower people.

‘World on Wheel’ initiative, inaugurated by Dr. J.N. Singh, Chief Secretary, Govt. of Gujrat, is also meant to support Digital India initiative of the Government of India. This initiative aims to transform the country into a digitally forward nation. It will allow individuals to gain access to IT literacy programs and connect to different government programs.

HP-WOW bus is implemented by Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII). It offers mobility solution so that the digital divide between urban and rural areas could be bridged by bringing easy information technology access to the aloof and isolated disadvantaged groups in 18 villages of Ahmedabad (Gujrat).

Ashish Sahay said,”We intend to make a measurable difference by inspiring people to put their best foot forward by gaining digital literacy and meaningfully contributing towards the making of the digital economy that we all evasion.”

HP has committed to deploying 48 IT-enabled digital inclusion and learning labs to the most isolated and disadvantaged villages across the country to confront digital illiteracy challenges in India. This program aims to reach 6400 villages in India to help 15 million people over the next 6 years. It targets primary, high school, and college-aged students with additional programming opportunities for adults and community members of all ages. It aimed to cover 8 states in its first year that is Uttrakhand, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and Gujrat.
