BSNL has launched its Internet Telephony Service called “Wings” in which the user can dial any phone number in India through the app. Around 4000 booking has been received for the new offer starting this week.
State- Run BSNL’s new service was disclosed by Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha on July 11 and will be operational from tomorrow i.e. 25 July.
We expect the service to attract customers especially the youth, who will be able to make internet calls through data connectivity. It will be particularly useful when the subscriber goes abroad,” Anupam Shrivastava, BSNL Chairman, and Managing Director told.
Interestingly, over 4000 customers have already subscribed to this new service.
What “Wings” is giving you?
With this service, the customers can make unlimited calls by paying annual fees of Rs 1099 and using the internet service or Wi-Fi of any telecom operator to any phone number.
Currently, voice calls can be made through the mobile apps to those who have the same mobile apps as in the case with WhatsApp or Hike. “Customers will use the facility to make calls to only users in India using the Wings app even from abroad. This can be utilized with Internet connectivity anywhere in the world and calls can be made.
It is not abiding on the users to apply for the company’s mobile and landline connection separately.
The new amendment only allows authorized licensed holders to provide the full-fledged Internet telephony and not over the top players like WhatsApp and Google Duo, that only allows the app to app calls.
‘Wings” can be used even in those areas where mobile coverage is not good but there is a facility of Internet service is available. The service riding on the Internet service of any operator will allow the customer to make or receive calls.
The government has recently amended norms to allow full-fledged Internet telephony by telecom operators which enable calls from app to the app of licensed service providers as well as phone numbers.
