This day is also known as the Fete da la Musique after a music festival which started in 1982 in France. Initially, the France minister of culture Jack Lang introduced the idea of the music through this fest and after that, it is being celebrated as the World Music Day every year.
There is also another story about the American musician Joel Cohen, that how he offers the idea of an all Night celebration of the music in France to mark the beginning of the summer solstice in 1976 and from that time, the whole world started celebrating this day.

To mark the day, around 150 artists from 16 countries all over the world, including France, USA, Nepal, Spain, Italy, Thailand, and India, will be performing at multiple venues across the city of Udaipur in 2018. The line-up promises amazing one. From Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy to Txarango, a Catalan fusion band, performing in this fest, the fest promise to give a bouquet of culturally-diverse music on a platter.
