Lakhs of Devotees Celebrates Krishna Janmashtami despite the Heavy Rains and Rush.
Janmashtami is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Krishna. On this auspicious day, lakhs of lord Krishna devotees celebrate this festival across the country. It is believed that Krishna is the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This festival is known to be the biggest festival in Mathura, where Lord Krishna was born. According to the Hindu calendar, Krishna was born on the Eighth day of Shravan month.
The ritual of Dahi Handi is also a very popular and is a part of the celebration of this festival, lakhs of people come to Mathura and Vrindavan from distant places to celebrate Janmashtami and to enjoy Dahi Handi.
The temples in Mathura, Vrindavan, Gokul, Barsana, Nandigram, and Govardhan are expected to be full of a rush as the temples of these places celebrates the festival throughout the day.
This year Janmashtami is being celebrated on September 2 but, the ritual of Dahi Handi is performed on September 3. The temples also organize the recitation of the holy books like Bhagavata Purana and Bhagavad Gita. The Krishna temples are specially decorated and cultural programs, bhajan, kirtan, Satsang meetings are organized in these temples on Janmashtami. The temples which have the most significance of this festival are Krishna Janmabhoomi and Dwarkadhesh temple in Mathura, the birthplace of Lord Krishna.
