has been sentenced two years prison in a case of vandalism at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Rushikesh Patel’s office in Visnagar during 2015 Patidar protests.
Hardik was found guilty by the Visnagar Court in Gujarat on Wednesday. He also has to pay the fine of Rs 50,000.
Besides Hardik, Sardar Parel Group (SPG) convener Lalji Patel and Ambalal Patel have also been found guilty. These two leaders are also jailed for two years and have to pay the fine of Rs 50,000.
The other 14 accused of this case are not found guilty due to the lack of evidence against them.
The FIR against Hardik Patel was filed at Visnagar in Mehsana district on July 23, 2015, in relation to the rally which turned violent.
The Patel community took out the rally to seek reservation for their community, but it turned violent and the protester damaged property and assaulted several media persons.
The mob had also incinerated a car and vandalized the office of local BJP MLA Rishikesh Patel.
Hardik’s Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti has been protesting to seek reservation for the Patel community under Other Backward Classes in Gujarat to get reservation quota in government jobs and education.
He was also charged with sedition charges in October 2015 on provoking statement in which he provoking his supporters to kill policemen instead of committing suicide due to no reservation.
He was the prime reason behind the revolt of the Patidar community against the ruling BJP government in the state and was later arrested and was kept in Surat after he led a huge.
His arrest was also caused violent protest and torching of property and material on large scale by his supporters in some towns and states.
