Apple has recently started manufacturing its several models of iPhone in Bengaluru. This is done through a contract manufacturer. The news was confirmed in parliament today.
“While Apple has already started manufacturing of certain models of iPhone in Bengaluru through a contract manufacturer, details of private business decisions are not maintained by the Centre,” Minister of State for Commerce and Industry C R Chaudhary stated in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
The government has already received applicants looking for franchises which include duty exclusion on developed and repair units, components, capital equipment and consumables for smartphone manufacturing, although it has not been accepted.
As on July 15, 16,324 applications have been received of which 11,129 are of start-ups confirmed the minister.
