The Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 has been specially designed to power larger mobile devices running Windows 10. The chip is clocked higher than the current ruling champion, Snapdragon 845, which powers all the latest flagships.
The Snapdragon 850 mobile platform supports

• Trustzone Advanced Hardware Security
• Enhanced Cortana and other Voice Assistants
So, basically, it supports all the essential services that make for a complete Windows 10 experience.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 850: Powering Ultra-Portables

The recent chip from Qualcomm has been specifically designed to power Always On, Always connected PCs. The processor is made to deliver instant boot times along with an extended battery life. The efficient performance is achieved through advanced manufacturing and processor cores that run coolly and quietly without fans.

Qualcomm is claiming a 25% increase in battery life and an improvement of around 30% in processing speed and graphics over its previous progeny. The Snapdragon 850 is also said to deliver 4-5 times longer connected standby times than the competition.

The eight Kyro 385 Gold CPUs, built on the ARM Cortex A75 technology, can be clocked up to 2.96 GHz. It is said the faster performance will be achieved by improving heat dissipation using the extra space afforded by the bigger devices which this processor will be powering.

Also, the Snapdragon 850 shares the same Snapdragon X20 LTE modern that is included with the 845. But the modem on the 850 has been furthermore improved to deliver a 20% improvement with peak download speeds up to 1.2 Gigabits. The new design delivers up to 70% faster LTE speeds even in weak signal conditions or at the extreme edges of the network.

Since the new platform is designed to be always connected, the device can sync data and receive notification in Sleep mode as well.

Artificial Intelligence: The New Buzzword

As per Qualcomm,

“The Qualcomm Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engine and heterogeneous computing architecture on the Snapdragon 850 mobile compute platform supports compelling on-device camera experiences and voice user interface (UI) features, as well as superior battery life.”

This implies that the new platform has an advanced AI engine that will provide its services to deliver better camera experience, better voice control & commands a better battery life.

This processor will also support the Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ Technology which will deliver extremely fast recharge times.

Is This The Future? : Qualcomm Powered PCs

Currently, Samsung and Lenovo have confirmed their ultra-portable devices later this year. These will go up against Google’s Chromebooks. As Always On, Always Connected processors improve performance, we can expect to see more Windows PCs with LTE connectivity powered by Qualcomm’s Chipsets.

While the Snapdragon 835 could be seen as a first attempt at Windows 10 on ARM, the Snapdragon 850 is a true pioneer in the field because it has been specifically designed for Windows 10. With the advancements in specifications and improvements in performance, these ARM-powered PCs could become the ultimate productivity tools.
